Charter Oak's 21-year-old winemaker, David Robert Fanucci, was named Top Young Winemaker at the 2010 NexGen Wine Competition in Santa Rosa, California. His wine, on offer here, was named Best of Show. Fanucci is a third-generation winemaker who crafts wines to celebrate tradition and embrace the most up-to-date techniques. The results are apparent here. Filled with raspberry, dark chocolate, blackberry and wet earth aromas and flavours. Dry, with fruit up front, but then silky tannins and refreshing acidity bring wonderful balance. Enjoy it tonight with a rare steak, or cellar 3-5+ years.
